Lorde argues that the oppressed mustiness change how the oppressors view them; by must educating or re-position themselves in society. She believes that the whole society must change their way of visual perception difference. The way they currently treat it is to ignore it, and if that is not possible, imitate it if we think it is dominant, or destroy it if we think it is subordinate (855). The differences concerning race, age, and sex are the reason behind the separation and confusion. Lorde mentions the American mythic norm,(855) which is the image of the ideal American that society upholds; this figure is white, thin, male, young, heterosexual, Christian, and financially secure (855).
