Materials:
-Test tube
- Ring carrel
- Clamp
- Ring
- 400 ml beaker
- Thermometer
- Goggles
- Apron
- Pencil
- Timer
Procedure:
1. Set up apparatus
2. Melt the P-dichlorobenzene in boiling water
3. One the P-dichlorobenzene is liquid, raise squeeze with test tube out of water
4. Begin reading the temperature all minute until the temperature drops to or so 45 C
5. All thermometer to freeze in the P-dichlorobenzene
6. Set up a table to record beat and temperature
Purpose:
In this lab, the objective was to melt P-dichlorobenzene. When the substance was melted completely, we had to place the test tube into a ring stand and watch the temperature drop. We recorded the temperature of the P-dichlorobenzene every minute. We wrote down the time and temperature.
analytic thinking:
Looking at the data I collected, it showed that the melting manoeuvre for P-dichlorobenzene was around 52 degrees. The freezing point would be about 71 degrees. As each minute passed, the temperature either stayed the same, or decreased. The P-dichlorobenzene seemed to stay at 52 degrees for about 6 minutes.
