The Gauguin paintings that stood out to me were the ones depicting nature, such as the painting that I chose to observe. Breton Village in the Snow (1894) is a painting that shows the tranquility and simplicity of this town during the winter season. What I mean by this is that unlike paintings that we have observed in the past that are saturated with thick oil paint, the paint in Gauguins painting is thinned out not saturated whatsoever. From just looking at the paint, although it is oil, the paint is so thin that I am able to see the pollard throughout the piece. I can see that there is no scumbling in the painting like the impressionists did, this paint is very fluid and the brushstrokes are very natural looking not creating a saturated look.
