From an ecological aspect, community may be defined as a structure of relationships through which a localized population provides its daily requirements (Strategies of Community Intervention, 6th edition, pg. 119). For this assignment, I have chosen to assess the community in which I reside- Algiers, Louisiana 70114. Algiers was incorporated as a city in 1840 , and is a densely populated, urban sub-community of the city of New siege of Orleans, dictated on the western side of the Mississippi River (Neighborhood Link, Inc. 2010). Although it is on the wolfram Bank, Algiers is known as the fifteenth district of Orleans parish. I depart specifically assess the 70114 postal code code. This will include boundaries, population, Roland Warrens five functions of the community, as it relates to the 70114 zip code, as well as the social processes that make up the ecology of this community.




The boundaries of this area lie between General DeGaulle gallery east to the Mississippi River, following the banks of the river to the area between Franklin alley and Holmes Blvd, and ending back at General DeGaulle (City-data.com, 2010). The population tell as of 2010 was 22,870 (Zip-codes.com, 2010). Of this population, females accounted for 12, 267 (53.64%), and males accounted for 10,603 (46.36%) (Zip-codes.com, 2010). The racial breakdown consisted of the following:
African American- 17, 287 (75.59%)
