Yet we, as the rebellious Americans that we are, managed to find a way around the Constitution. The two parties that emerged during the 1790s were the Federalists and the Democratic-Republicans. The Federalists, so aptly named, lucky a strong centralized administration as outlined in the Constitution. This divergence in political ideology has never richly been settled (as seen in todays political parties, the Democrats and Republicans) and is the rudimentary philosophical point of contention between the two parties.
