Nathaniel Hawthorne taught people about the Puritans and what he believed was reproach with it through his book The Scarlett Letter. Hawthorne used his briny characters Hester, Dimmesdale, and Pearl to teach people about the Puritan connection and how sinners were treated.
Hester Prynne had a kid out of wedlock and was forced to exhaust an A for adulterer on her chest. Hester had to stand in the middle(a) of the town on pedestal where everyone could see and mock her and baby Pearl. Hester and other sinners were treated very poorly, they were only seen for thither sin and non who they really were. People lived in idolize of sinning and becoming like Hester, she was seen as an example of what not to become. Hawthorne makes a point to really tell people how wrong it is to make a mockery of others mistakes or flaws. He showed people about the Puritans and there believes and how they lived in fear of doing something wrong and past having to deal with it years and years later like Hester, Dimmesdale, and Pearl.




some other character Hawthorne used to teach people was Dimmesdale; he was a reverent in town and Pearls tyro as well. Only two people knew about Dimmesdale being the father and that was Hester and Dimmesdale. Dimmesdale didnt want what happened to Hester to happen to him, so he kept it a secret and so did Hester. Dimmesdale did feel poorly about not coming out and telling everyone that he was the father, he felt so bad that the guilt very mad him sick.
